Focusing on problems pertaining to the social, economic, political, environmental and international issues
Vision & Mission
Dr. B.R Ambedkar, in closing speech to the Assembly debates said, “On the 26th of January 1950, we are going to enter a life of contradictions. In politics we will have equality and in social and economic life we will have inequality. In politics we will be recognizing the principle of one man one vote and one vote one value. In our social and economic life we shall by reason of our social and economic structure, continue to deny the principle of one man one value. How long shall we continue to deny this principle of one man one value? How long shall we continue to deny equality in our social and economic life? If we continue to deny it for long, we do so only by putting our political democracy in peril”. It was a stark reality of this newly independent nation. The framers of the constitution decided to move ahead and combat such social and economic ills with vision of equality, liberty and justice for all.

Over the period of time, there has been an increasing recognition of the fact that that general economic and social development in the country has not conformed to hope and expectation of the leaders and people alike. The theoretical and empirical insight on poverty, participation in political and social processes, forms, nature and dynamics of discrimination and its consequences for livelihood etc is still very limited. Similarly, understanding of the impact of economic development in market on economic and social development is also limited.

Lack of functional knowledge on these subjects has constrained the efforts of policy makers and other constituents in society in identifying remedies and policies for societal development in India. Research on such themes is particularly useful in Indian society, characterized by high a degree of stratification based on caste, race, ethnicity, religion, language, and region. The central focus of the CARDC has been on undertaking, and advancing scholarly research through increasingly interdisciplinary perspective.
